Electric vehicles, solar panels, and wind turbines are among the leading green technologies being implemented to combat climate change. While they play a vital role in this fight, it’s important to recognize that they are only part of the solution. SMEs have also developed many other innovative solutions to address environmental challenges.
It’s worth noting that the production of electric vehicle (EV) batteries and solar panels rely on the mining of natural resources that are not freely available. Therefore, we must ensure that the mining processes are carried out safely and with minimal pollution emissions. Similarly, while wind turbines are mainly made of steel, they also require special composites for their blades which must be produced in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Although these green technologies do not emit any pollution during their use. It’s crucial to ensure that they are disposed of safely at the end of their life cycle. We cannot simply throw them into landfills as this could have negative environmental impacts. Over the next few years as the transportation industry undergoes electrification the demand for raw materials will increase leading to the opening of new mines. We must be proactive in ensuring that these mines are operated safely and sustainably to minimize their impact on the environment.
