Proven Sustainable Green Technologies

The following examples showcase proven green sustainable technologies that we strongly believe should have been implemented on a large scale worldwide by now. Although we have no affiliations with the companies behind these technologies, we have identified them as promising solutions that can contribute towards a more sustainable and healthier world.

Sewage Water as Energy

Sewage water is a readily available resource that flows continuously beneath our cities, with an average temperature of around 21 degrees Celsius throughout the year. This abundant resource can be utilized for heating and cooling buildings, given that it has the potential to provide a significant amount of thermal energy. It is evident that a considerable amount of thermal energy is wasted when we consider the volume of water going down the drain from bathing. Sharc Energy is a Canadian company installing Sewage Heat Recovery Systems based in Vancouver, Canada.

Transforming Unrecyclable Plastics

Rather than discarding unrecyclable plastics in landfills, such plastics can be transformed into pyrolysis oil, which can then be used as a raw material to produce plastic with a lower water requirement than virgin plastic. Additionally, the pyrolysis oil can be further refined into diesel or gasoline, providing an alternative source of fuel to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The company BioFabrik , based in Dresden, Germany recycles plastics and oils.

Building Small Biogas Plants

Mini biogas plants offer a decentralized solution to electricity and heat generation that can be implemented on-site at farms, urban buildings, and in impoverished areas. For instance, a herd of 85 cows has the potential to generate up to 120,000 kWh of electricity annually through biogas production. Additionally, wasted food from restaurants can be harnessed for energy to power low-cost housing and other residential buildings. The company Bert Energy Gmb based in Leverkusen, Germany is a specialist in Biogas plants.

Cultivating Industrial Hemp

Industrial hemp has many potential uses. For example Load-bearing hemp blocks made from industrial hemp offer a sustainable alternative to the construction industry. Industrial hemp plants mature in just three months and absorb large quantities of CO2, contributing to soil rejuvenation through their deep root systems. Moreover, buildings made with hemp blocks provide a healthy indoor environment and continue to store CO2 over time. Additionally, since hemp blocks use only the stem, the rest of the plant can be utilized for making rope, clothing, paper, and other products. The company Just Biofiber Structural Solutions, Corp. based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada have developed load bearing hemp blocks for the construction industry.
