Lithium-Ion Batteries for Electric Vehicles
“Over the next 10 years or so, there’s going to be tremendous bottlenecks in lithium supply around the world,” Pratt Toyota chief scientist and CEO of the Toyota Research Instituted said , “Just look at the number of mines that need to be made. There’s also going to be a bottleneck in battery-grade nickel… when the demand is going up so fast.”
With approximately 1.3 billion cars on the road worldwide, the amount of lithium, nickel, and graphite needed to replace them with electric vehicles is staggering. Additionally, imagine the impact of particulate emissions from these cars on air quality today, it is a major concern.
